“Hate comments say less about you and more about the person typing them”, says Rajnandini, a fashion blogger. She, out of everyone, knows the kind of filth people spew on the internet and that they do not really matter.

But only if it was as easy to actually ignore hate comments as it is to type a shiny piece of advice telling you to do it. After a point, the negativity does get to you. You start to question yourself and begin to have self-doubt. But is it worth it? According to Rajnandini, she does get affected by the comments because the words used are not just harsh, they are mean.

But how do we tackle these hate comments which are purely the result of venom that a random stranger on the internet wants to throw at you? You have to train yourself and make yourself understand that those nasty comments do not define who you are. What they do exhibit though, is the mentality of the person who thought it was okay to say that to someone on the internet just because there is no accountability.

The key to having peace of mind is to separate the positive criticism from blind hatred thrown at you to get your attention. Once you work on the criticism and stop paying heed to the haters, half the virtual battle is already won. 

Treat hate comments like you treat the blabberings on a busy bazaar street – of course, it’s loud, and it can get overwhelming, but it is coming from a faceless source that knows nothing about you.
