My Desperate Cry For Help on Facebook Saved My Life

2 min read

“Get over it!” – how often have you heard these words thrown at you when you begin talking about your issues? You feel broken and alone and cornered at that moment. For Arjun, these words were all he could hear when he tried to open up about his depression.

At a time when Arjun was sinking into this hapless pit of darkness, he could find no straw to clutch on to for his dear life. That is when he decided that he had to open up, even at the risk of being called an attention-seeker. “I have had to live without any attention for far too long”, wrote Arjun on his Facebook profile and let it all out without caring for judgments.

Arjun would come back from college and cry every day. After a point, he stopped going to college and shut himself up completely. He felt like he could not share anything – “ Nobody ever taught me how to share.” That actually made him realize that we have to be our own line of defense, which eventually led to a breakthrough in the form of his tell-all Facebook post.

The result of this leap of faith? Arjun was overwhelmed by the supportive response that he received. Suddenly, he had hope. He was not alone. He could share. He was there for himself. People were there for him. That was the much-needed spark for him. He found allies who could relate to him and he started believing in himself.

Arjun managed to drag himself out of this dark tunnel which had become his state of life. Hear him talk about his valiant battle against severe depression and believe that if he can, we all can.
